Matthew McCarthy

My name is Dr. Matthew McCarthy (PhD). I have been full-time at the Leicester Diabetes Centre (Leicester General Hospital) since September 2013.

During this period, I have been appointed as Project Manager for several research studies focusing on Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour, Diabetes and Broader Health status.

I have been the primary supervisor of a Masters student as part of the intercalated MSc programme and currently form part of the broader supervision team overlooking a PhD student.

With experience in Project Management, securing Grant Income, Publications and Student Supervision, my role has been somewhat diverse.

Favourite way to be active

Previous passion for Size and Strength training, but at present, anything that raises the heart rate and keeps me injury-free.

  • SIT and be FIT study - Investigating the impacts of seated upper body exercise on cardio-respiratory fitness and health in those with diabetic foot ulceration (Project Manager - Co PI)
